Branding Presents Opportunity

A recent study in Ontario dispels the notion that consumers are only interested in cheap food. In fact, the survey by Strategic Research Associates (SRA) of Guelph found that consumers are not only willing to pay more for safer food; they will also pay a premium for beef raised in Ontario.

John Vieira, director of client services for SRA, shared the results of the study at the Beef Industry Convention in London.


Building On The Momentum

Looking ahead to 2012, Jim Clark, executive director of the Ontario Cattle Feeders’ Association, says the top priorities will be meeting increased demand for Ontario Corn Fed Beef and doing more to promote brand awareness.

Clark told Beef Industry Convention in London (Jan. 6) that 2011 proved to be a monumental year for the brand as the OCFA worked to maintain existing partnerships while also expanding the program to include Canada’s largest food retailer, Loblaw Companies.


Family Harmony vs. Family Conflicts

Back by popular demand, Dr. Ron Hanson, an agri-business professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, brought his honest and entertaining approach for dealing with family farm succession matters to the Beef Industry Convention.

Hanson, who teaches full-time at the University of Nebraska, counsels family farm operations in his spare time.

He shared his valuable insight during his presentation on Multi-Generation Farm Family Beef Cattle Operations: Family Harmony vs. Family Conflicts.


Tea Party Movement Not Going Away

The panel discussion at the 13th Annual Beef Industry Convention produced another lively exchange of opinions on issues likely to affect the beef business during the next year.

This year’s panelists were guest speakers Bruce Vincent, Alex Avery (director of research and education at the Hudson Institute’s Center for Global Food Issues) and Globe & Mail political columnist Jeffrey Simpson.

Given the expertise of the three panelists, the discussion provided some unique insight into the current political scene in North America, including the Tea Party movement in the U.S.


Ontario Corn Fed Beef: A Hit On Radio

It was another impressive demonstration of Ontario Corn Fed Beef  when the mobile kitchen – “There’s No Taste Like Home” trailer – visited LaMantia’s Country Market in Lindsay.

On Sept. 1, 2010, local radio station BOB-FM was broadcasting from LaMantia’s as part of a “Summer Grand Prize Giveaway” that featured a barbecue, a patio set and Ontario Corn Fed Beef steaks.


Exciting Speakers For Beef Convention

The Ontario Cattle Feeders’ Association is pleased to announce a dynamic line up of speakers for the 13th Annual Beef Industry Convention. The event will be held January 6-8, 2011 at the Best Western Lamplighter Inn in London.

The Convention is renowned for bringing all sectors of Ontario’s beef business together to celebrate the industry while providing valuable insight into the challenges ahead.


Farm Show Carcass Competition Winners

The 2010 Quality Beef Carcass Competition at Canada’s Outdoor Farm Show (COFS) announced its winners on September 27th.

At a dinner meeting in Norwich, Tom Hern from Woodham, ON was named champion among the 15 other competitors.  Having entered the champion animal, Hern receives $1000 in prize money.

Held annually at COFS in Woodstock, the competition promotes meat quality and provides producers with an educational experience– in addition to some friendly competition.
